The Farne Islands in particular are famous for their prolific bird colonies - regular boat trips depart from Seahouses at regular times. The mud flats of Buddle Bay are a RSPB nature reserve and are home to a huge variety of rare waders which arrive every year to feed on the food rich mud flats.
The Cheviot Hills offer a great chance to spot a buzzard or even a peregrine falcon - the world's fastest bird! You may also be lucky enough to spot a Black Grouse, which have successfully been re-introduced to the area. The best time to spot one of these impressive game birds is early Spring where males battle it out for the female's attention during the, "Lek" .
